**Darma Valley** is a remote, untouched paradise nestled in the eastern corner of Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district. Cut off from modern urban hustle, the valley lies alongside the Lassar Yankti River, bordering Tibet on the north. It is inhabited by the warm-hearted Rung community who reside in villages showcasing beautiful ancient wooden carvings.
The highlight of this journey is the proximity to the spectacular **Panchachuli Peaks** (a cluster of five majestic snow-clad summits). The view of the peaks towering directly over the green farmlands and rustic houses of **Dantu Village** is one of the most iconic landscapes in the entire Himalayas.
Our tour combines scenic mountain drives, day treks to glacier points, camping, and immersion into local Himalayan village culture, providing a true escape into nature. (If you are seeking a sacred pilgrimage instead, read about our Adi Kailash & Om Parvat Yatra, or explore the alpine trails of Khaliya Top Trek in Munsiyari).
Assemble at Kathgodam railway station. Embark on a long, scenic mountain drive through Almora, Bageshwar, and Chaukori. Enjoy views of pine forests and deep valleys. Arrive in Dharchula, a bustling town on the Indo-Nepal border, by evening. Check-in and overnight stay in Dharchula.
After finishing inner-line permit checks, board the local 4x4 vehicles. Drive to Sobla, the gateway to Darma Valley. Proceed along the Lassar Yankti river, driving past dramatic cliffs, hanging bridges, and remote border outposts. Arrive at Urthing village homestay. Overnight stay in Urthing.
A short but extremely beautiful drive deeper into the valley, climbing past small farms growing buckwheat. Arrive at Dantu Village (3,030m). Dantu is an ancient village with houses built of stone and beautifully carved wooden doors. Check into your homestay and spend the evening interacting with the local Rung tribe. Enjoy a breathtaking sunset behind the Panchachuli peaks. Overnight stay in Dantu.
Set out on a day trek (or take a jeep ride if road permits) towards the Panchachuli Glacier base point. Walk through flat alpine meadows surrounded by Birch forests. Reach the close-up viewpoint of the massive glaciers and the five snow peaks. Spend time taking photographs and meditating. Return to Dantu for a hot traditional dinner and stay.
Have a hearty breakfast and bid farewell to the hosts. Drive down the valley back to Dharchula. Check into the hotel and enjoy a hot shower. Spend the evening resting or exploring the local bazaar. Overnight stay in Dharchula.
Depart early from Dharchula. Drive back via Pithoragarh/Champawat, stopping for lunch along the way. Reach Kathgodam Railway Station by evening (approx. 7:00 PM) for your onward journey, bringing home the peace of Darma Valley.
