**Khaliya Top** is a magnificent alpine meadow (bugyal) situated high above the picturesque town of **Munsiyari** in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. Lying at an altitude of 3,500m, this trek is ideal for families, beginners, and photography enthusiasts who wish to experience the thrill of walking on snow and sleeping in alpine meadows without doing an extremely long trek.
The trail winds upwards through dense forests of oak, pine, and scarlet **rhododendrons** (which bloom beautifully in pink and red during March-April). As you break above the tree line, you are greeted by the massive, towering snow peaks of the **Panchachuli, Nanda Devi, Hardeol, and Rajrambha** ranges. The views are so close and majestic that they seem to be at arm's length.
Our 3-day package includes transport from Kathgodam, guided trekking, forest entry permits, comfortable dome tents, sleeping bags, and fresh meals cooked at the campsite. (If you prefer a high-altitude cultural road journey or a sacred pilgrimage, explore our Adi Kailash & Om Parvat Yatra, or the rugged Darma Valley Expedition).
Pick-up from Kathgodam Railway Station in the morning. Drive past the lake district of Bhimtal, the pine-clad hills of Almora, and the scenic Ramganga river. Stop at the majestic Birthi Falls (a towering 120m waterfall) to stretch and take photos. Arrive in the beautiful hill town of Munsiyari (2,200m). Enjoy views of the Panchachuli peaks at sunset. Check into the hotel for dinner and stay.
Post breakfast, take a short drive to Balati Bend (the trek start point). Begin climbing the gradual trail under a canopy of oak and rhododendron trees. The trail is well-defined. Pause for refreshments at the midway point. Arrive at the wide, grassy alpine meadow of Khaliya Top. Set up camp, explore the ridges, and watch a gorgeous Himalayan sunset. Overnight stay in cozy alpine dome tents (or local guest house).
Wake up early to catch the sunrise lighting up the snow peaks of Nanda Devi. After breakfast, pack up and trek back down to Balati Bend. Board your private vehicle and drive back to Kathgodam Railway Station, arriving late in the evening (around 8:00 PM) for your departure train.
